Winner of the 1994 Pritzker Architecture Prize – the builder’s equivalent of the Nobel – French architect Christian de Portzamparc was born in 1944 and has been practicing since 1971.

This volume will reveals a hitherto unknown aspect of Christian de Portzamparc’s formal explorations, for in addition to sketches of his architectural projects, it focuses on essentially pictorial elements which either figure among his architectural compositions, or stand alone as autonomous visual inventions.

Without immediate practical applications, the sketches, drawings, paintings that one will discover here offer a fresh approach to the architect’s imagination.
